Chiang Mai 2009

We celebrated New Year's Eve in our new home in Chiang Mai. At midnight we stood in our second story bedroom watching from our window as the night sky was illuminated with amazing fireworks and the constant launching of large white lanterns that were propelled by candle power from within their translucent white skin. They continued to soar and follow the winds until the candles burn out and the lanterns return to earth. The sky was dotted with the lanterns all at various heights. If one didn't know better you'd thing the earth was being invaded by aliens of some type. It was a magnificent sight to behold! What a way to welcome the new year 2009!

It has taken several weeks to get settled in. Things like getting set up for Internet, subscribing and having satellite TV installed. Now we can really keep up with what's going on in the U.S. As we get CNN, Larry King, Bloomberg, BBC, and various sports channels, including ESPN. So we're not missing any major golf or tennis tournaments.

Our house came basically furnished but we found that we had to provide all our bedding, kitchen supplies, various area rugs, and miscellaneous small furnishings. This all took time as we had to locate the best places to shop. And not knowing our way around Chiang Mai certainly added to the challenge. But...we got it done. Now we're ready to relax and start enjoying golf and tennis on a regular basis.
